The High Rocks in Tunbridge Wells is a Stone Age National Monument and as such dates back millions of years back to when the area was known as "The Wealden Lake".

Some of the first people to be aware of this area was that of Stone Age Man who inhabited the rocks, sheltering in the sandy alcoves that are shown on the map below:

As with places like Matlock Bath, Tunbridge Wells originally became a popular place as a spa and holiday centre attracting the like of James II who visited the area in the 1670s and it was his visit that inspired the creation of the bowling green and maze that are also indicated on the map.

It is very easy to find the High Rocks, all you need to do is get to Tunbridge Wells and then follow the sign posts!   When you arrive at you destination you will see The High Rocks pub which has a dedicated car park across the road for you to park in.

You will need to purchase a ticket for a nominal fee from The High Rocks pub before entering the site.  They have a couple of leaflets that you can take, one of which goes in to detail about the history of the site and the other one depicts a map of how it used to be (which explains why I couldn't find the maze when I visited)!
