Situated in the Rutland County, Lyddington Bede House is a fine example of a former Bishops palace.
You begin your tour of the former palace by climbing the stairs next to the shop where you purchase your ticket. As you reach the top of the stairs you will see the entrances to two rooms. The one on the left leads up to the attic rooms and the one to the right leads to the great chamber…
The Great Chamber
As you enter the great chamber you will be met by what is left of the splendor that would have once filled this room. The timber cornice that goes around the ceiling is awe inspiring and is just one example of the magnificence of this room.
The Attic
As with most attics, this would have been mainly used for storage, having said that there is a fine example of an iron fireplace that indicates that at least one of these rooms was used and heated.
The Bedesman’s Rooms
If you venture outside of the property you will have a chance to have a look in the rooms that Bedesmen once used to live in, they might not look like very much and they are rather small, but they were at least a warm roof over their heads.
