On purchasing the tickets we were asked if we wanted to include the Circus. Circus, what Circus? Never having been to Blackpool before I was completely unaware of what I now know to be a world famous Circus inside the tower!
Britains Largest Seaside Resort.
Blackpool is said to be the largest and most popular seaside in the whole of Europe and I had never been…
In May 2006 some mates and I headed off for a weekend in Blackpool. On arrival our first priority was to find a place to stay for the night. Once we had found a guesthouse we headed off for a walk around to see what we could find…
The first port of call was to visit the world famous Blackpool Tower. On purchasing the tickets we were asked if we wanted to include the Circus. Circus, what Circus? Never having been toBlackpool before I was completely unaware of what I now know to be a world famous Circus inside the tower!
We began the tour up the tower through the aquarium (yes that’s right, an aquarium). As you gradually walk up the different floors you get to see all sorts of displays telling you about the history of the tower including the Circus and its famous clown, Charlie Cairoli.
The Circus.
On reaching the entrance to the Circus, we made are way in and sat down. It was a lot larger than I had imagined – there was seating for several hundred patrons. There was even a live band/orchestra that played the live music throughout the show.
Other than the ringmaster and the clown, all the acts were female artists from around the world. There were acrobats, chorus-girls, dancers, gymnasts, tight-rope walkers, jugglers and for the finale there was even a woman from the USA being shot from a canon!
After 3hrs watching the Circus (yes 3 hours of fantastic family entertainment), we continued our climb up the tower. On reaching the bottom of the lifts we joined the queue of eager people waiting to reach the top!
The Top.
The lift went up, and up, and up, and up, and up until we finally reached the top.
As you can see from this photograph the views were absolutely amazing!
There is a small gift shop at the top where you can purchase some reasonably priced souvenirs to remind you of your visit. There is even a postbox up there where you can send a postcard that will be postmarked with the towers official postmark.
And for those of you who dare – you can experience the Walk Of Faith 2inch thick glass floor!
One thing you do have to be aware of, is that on very windy days they don’t allow you to go to the top of the tower – so you’d be advised to check the weather forecast beforehand if you really want to go to the top.
The tower is just one of many attractions that you can find at Blackpool – you must forget to go on one of the infamousBlackpool trams! Unfortunately we didn’t have time over the weekend to take a trip up the seafront on the trams (which gives me a perfect excuse to go again)!
Louis Tussauds Wax Works.
One other attraction we did manage to visit was Louis Tussauds wax works which is one of Blackpools oldest attractions which was surprisingly large inside having the waxwork models of the rich and famous in many, many galleries spread over several floors.
And finally, for those avid Dr Who fans out there, there is a Dr Who museum that is well worth a visit.
