Osborne House

05 May

Address: PO32 6JX
Website: English Heritage

If you happen to be on the Isle of Wight then a visit to Osborne House is an absolute must!

Obsborne House was built by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert and it was where they escaped from the hustle and bustle of London and Windsor.  The house was used by Queen Victoria for well over 50 years and it was in Osborne House where she died.  Words can not express the exact splendor of this property and unfortunately photography inside the house is not permitted so I can not show it to you either.

All I can say is that every single room is full of furnature and works of art that are to the exact tastes of the royal couple.

Pretty much no type of room is out of bounds and your tour around the house takes you everywhere from the servants rooms in the basement to the bedroom where Queen Victoria died.

The horn room is particularly magnificent where the tables, chairs and even the light fittings are all made from stag horns that came from the Balmoral estate when the royal couple visited it for the first time.

Once you have finished your grand tour of the house you can take a leisurely stroll around the gardens that Prince Albert himself designed.  Unfortunately the battery in my camera died so there are not that many photos in the photo gallery, I guess that means I shall have to visit the Isle of Wight again some time!

All-in-all, a visit to Osborne House will be an experience you will not forget and as I said at the begining, no visit to the Isle of Wight will be complete without it!

Yarmouth Castle

05 May

Address: PO41 0PB
Website: English Heritage

Situated quite litterally right next to the see (the water actually laps up against two of the castle walls), Yarmouth Castle is without a doubt one of, if not the, smallest castle I have ever looked around!

As with plenty of other castles, Yarmouth Castle played its part in the English Civil War where the Isle of Wight was strongly royalist.  Infact, Yarmouth Castle was the last castle that King Henry VII had built.

You begin your tour by first taking a look around the magazine rooms before going back on yourself back past the entrance to take a look at the rest of the castle…
